9.4 Assessment summary — Risks to the Regionʼs values

Paragraph 54(3)(d) of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 (Cth) requires ‘… an assessment of the risks to the ecosystem...’ within the Great Barrier Reef Region.

Paragraph 176(3)(b)(2)(b) of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Regulations 2019 (Cth) requires ‘… an assessment of the risks to the heritage values …’ of the Great Barrier Reef Region.

Separate risk assessments are provided for the Region’s ecosystem (natural heritage value) and its heritage values (Indigenous, historic and other values) based on their current condition (and trends in condition), factors influencing them, the effectiveness of protection and management measures, and an understanding of the overall resilience.
