Fishing is an important activity in the Region and provides valuable commercial, recreational and cultural benefits for users. It is the largest extractive use of the Region targeting a diversity of species, including fish, sharks, crabs, prawns, rock lobsters, squid, coral and sea cucumbers.
Fishing continues to be an important use of the Region
For the purposes of this report, the term ‘fishing’ includes recreational, charter and commercial fisheries. Fishing activities associated with traditional use are considered in Section 5.9.
