5.7 Ports

Ports have existed in the Region for over a century. Twelve ports are located in the Region, four of which are designated as priority ports under the Sustainable Ports Development Act 2015 (Qld) (the Sustainable Ports Act) — Gladstone, Hay Point/Mackay, Abbot Point and Townsville. Specific management applies to priority ports. The major trading ports in the Region are located at Gladstone, Hay Point, Mackay, Abbot Point, Townsville and Cairns. Smaller trading ports are community or minor ports (Figure 5.18).
